Phthalates are an old and new evil, hidden in plastics and many everyday products.
We have been using phthalates for a long time, and we are now seeing the devastating side effects.
It is no secret how plastics are polluting everything, and now everyone on this planet. It is not just in our environment, but now also in our biology. It has been found in the blubber of seals, and micro-plastics in our blood.
Plastic packaging is the biggest threat to leaching toxic chemicals into our food and products. This is super important information, so in this blog I’m explaining what phthalates are, how to spot them, and ways to protect yourself from them. And, if you’re like me and still wanting to have kids, then you definitely want to read this.
What Phthalates are.
Phthalates are a family of chemical compounds used to soften hard plastic (PVC), and as solvents in consumer products.
- Hygiene products & makeup
- Perfume/cologne
- Food and product packaging
- Pharmaceuticals
- Medical equipment like IV bags & tubing
- Children’s toys
- Building products like carpet, wallpaper, and roof coverings
It is now used in so many things, we are being exposed to them at highly toxic levels. They are leaching into the food and products we eat and use, bottled water being one of the most affected.
How Pthalates affect the body.
Phthalates have been linked to:
- Reproductive harm & genital defects
- Increases risk of miscarriage
- Allergies/asthma
- Premature puberty
- ADHD/behavioral issues
If you haven’t seen the Netflix documentary “Broken” yet, watch episode #1 – “Makeup Mayhem”. It shares several stories of the devastating effects phthalates and other chemicals have on our health and reproductive systems. The couple had to detox for 8 years in order for the male to produce enough healthy sperm to procreate.
If I see another tik-tocker boiling or microwaving scrambled eggs in plastic bags, I’m gonna scream.
Please do not do this EVER.
How to avoid Pthalates.
- Eat less processed and packaged foods
- Avoid plastic bottled water
- Eat out less, and cook more at home
- Avoid products with “fragrance” or “parfum” listed in its ingredients
- Avoid buying anything with plastic #3
- Buy products that are phthalate free, and avoid the other ones below:
- DEHP – bis-ethyl hexyl phthalate
- DINP – di-isobutyl phthalate
- DBP – di-butyl phthalate
- DIDP – di-isobutyl phthalate
- DnOp – di-n-octyl phthalate
- BBP – benzyl butyl phthalate
While I read an article with a study from 2001 stating that phthalates get metabolized through the body, I still remain skeptical.
What do you think?
I think this is beyond a warning sign. We are now seeing the long term effects of this chemical leeching into our food and products. The generations beyond us are now being affected. We have an immense purchasing power that can move mountains.
The bots are constantly mining our data to know what we want. So, you can show them what you want by speaking up online.
Your voice matters! Our lives and the future of civilization as we know it, depend on everyone speaking up about these forever chemicals and other toxins in our products and food.
